This unique project took place in a village near Oundle, where our clients had recently transformed an old village pub into a stunning family home. What was once a vast car park has now been completely reimagined into a vibrant, multi-functional garden space designed for family life, entertaining, and soaking in the peaceful countryside views over the surrounding farmland.
With a large, open plot to work with, our aim was to create distinct zones that blend modern design with traditional charm, complementing the character of the newly converted stone house. A key feature of the garden is the porcelain paving — chosen for its durability and clean finish, but styled to resemble traditional natural stone, providing a timeless feel with a contemporary edge.
At the heart of the entertaining space is a bespoke outdoor kitchen, built in beautiful stone and complete with a BBQ, all sheltered under a sleek modern metal pergola. This area provides the perfect setting for evening gatherings and weekend cooking in the sun.
Framing the paved areas are oak sleeper-edged planting beds, filled with a carefully curated selection of trees and flowering plants that bring life, colour, and softness throughout the seasons. The garden also features a play area with a sunken trampoline — a fun, safe space that keeps the children entertained without disrupting the flow of the design.
Set against the backdrop of open fields and big skies, this garden now offers a perfect blend of relaxation, play, and rural beauty — a true extension of the family home..
The build was carried out in four stages.
Firstly we prepared the site with excavation and levelling, and laid a base for the slabbed area.
The second stage was construction of raised beds. These were created with oak sleepers.
Thirdly was the laying of the porcelain slabs whilst incorporating the planting beds.
Finally the outdoor kitchen was constructed.
